Wedding Day Timeline

Putting together a run sheet that flows; doesn’t leave the guests oodles of spare time between the ceremony and reception, but allows for any delays, is super important for smooth sailing.

I generally recommend working backwards from sunset as a starting point for the ideal ceremony time. As a photographer, one of the most important aspects is working with the best available light. 1.5 hours leading up to sunset is generally the nicest time for photos to be taken. However, there are other contributing factors like surrounding landscape and cloud cover on the day.

Questions to ask yourself while planning out your timeline include:

Will there be enough time before sunset to take photos?

How long will it take to travel to your photo shoot destination?

Is your bridal party large and how will this effect logistics and timing?

Is there natural light available at your preparation location?

Have you left enough time for people to congratulate you and for family photos after your ceremony?

Leaving enough time.

Please keep in mind that after your ceremony it can take 15 minutes for your guests and family to congratulate you and it can take 20-40 minutes for family photos (If that’s what you’re choosing to do).

Please get in touch with any questions as you are going along and I can help you and make suggestions about timings and lighting and how these may effect your photos etc.

ENGAGEMENT SESSION TIPS

Couples sessions are a nice way for me to understand more about you and a great excuse to take some time out from wedding planning and focus on each other.

Although the images will be focused on you, the background can effect the tone and mood of the images. Usually I shoot in inner city Newcastle, on weekday mornings or afternoons as I like to keep weekends free for weddings and family. I love shooting at the beach, the bush, in open fields or in urban settings.

Have a think about locations that are sentimental to you. Is there a proposal spot that would work well? Somewhere pretty that you have picnicked before? If nothing comes to mind I am aways happy to make suggestions. If your special spot is outside the Newcastle area, that is absolutely OK. Let me know and we can discuss a small travel fee.

What To Wear.

The most important thing to remember is to feel great in what you are wearing. Always a great idea to try to compliment each other as far as colour is concerned. For example, neutral, tans, browns and pastels together, or bright vibrant colours. Avoid logos where possible. You could even choose something really quirky from your wardrobe, that will make the photos POP. Be consistent with each other. works best.

Time.

A pre wedding session usually takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour and the best time will depend on the spot that we choose.

Book It In.

Engagement time slots can be limited during peak wedding season. It is best to book in advance so that we don’t run the risk of running out of time. Mid week time slots tend to be more available.

Teamwork. BOOM!

  • Locations.

Choosing a place to get ready pre ceremony can be tricky as there are so many variables to think of. If possible, selecing a place with nice light and character, over small hotel rooms can make a huge difference. Of course, it is about you and not your background, but having a spot that is more charming, can give the images a little something extra. It can also be a good idea to try and get ready close to your partner, so that transport for people in between is kept to a minimum, making logistics much more simple.

  • Working Wth Your Vendors.

You will likely be co-ordinating timing with multiple different suppliers such as make-up, hair, flowers and cars. What time are the flowers arriving? What time does hair and make-up need to be completed? There can be a few things to juggle and the vendors you are working with will have some great advice for you. Please let me know if I can help with any thing regarding photo times in relation to other vendor timings.

Please email me with any questions as you are going along and I can help you and make suggestions

about timings and lighting and how these may effect your photos etc.
